Iran’s Largest ICT Show Kicks Off

The 23rd Iran International Exhibition of Electronics, Computers and E-Commerce went underway at Tehran International Permanent Fairground on Friday and will run until July 24.

Hailed as Iran’s largest gathering in the information and communication sector, ‘Elecomp 2017’ is host to over 800 domestic and international companies from 20 countries. The exhibition is organized by Iran’s ICT Guild Organization in an area of 60,000 square meters, some 32,000 sq. meters of which are usable.
This is the third consecutive Elecomp exhibition which is particularly dedicated to promoting startup companies. According to the organizers, 340 Iranian startups will feature in Elecom Stars – an area of 7,000 sq. meters, including two large halls –to present their products and services, work alongside mentors on how to expand their business and raise funds in meetings with potential investors.
Hall A41 is dedicated to state-owned ICT companies. According to Mahmoud Vaezi, Iran’s outgoing ICT minister, the third and last phase of the National Information Network will be unveiled at Elecomp.
The network is designed to be an alternative, independent and countrywide network; the content of which will compatible with Islamic values. Officials say the network would facilitate access to indigenously produced content, decrease costs and improve the quality of services.
Officials said last year that works on the network’s architecture and infrastructure had been completed.
A forum on “The Future of Information Technology” is scheduled to be held on July 23 in what is expected to gather senior officials and executives of the largest state-run Iranian ICT companies and organizations to discuss developments in e-commerce, internet, mobile applications, startups, mobile operators, big data, security and network.
Moreover, an initiative, known as ‘Ons’, will be present at Elecomp 2017. According to reports, Ons is a scheme aimed at improving the capacities and process of ICT services in Iran. It is pioneered by the ICT Guild Organization, the Industrial Management Institute and the Informatics Society of Iran.
Several participants have enjoyed financial assistance and discounts to feature in Elecomp, including fledgling startup companies that are mostly low on cash and see the exhibition is a window to raise funds, according to the organizers.
Iran’s ICT Guild Organization has established elecomp.irannsr.org as part of efforts to ease the
access to information about the show for foreign visitors/participants. Moreover, a dedicated Elecomp
application has been launched to help visitors and participants find their way around the halls and booths efficiently.
